Twiggs County Cobras Slide Past FPD Vikings 49-34

MACON, Ga. – The FPD boys basketball team (3-10, 0-6 Reg. 7A) dropped a tough 49-34 decision to the Twiggs County Cobras (3-13, 2-4 Reg. 7A) on Tuesday night, Jan. 20 at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center in Region-7 play.

Freshman Maurice Gordon led the Vikings with eight points, while freshmen Champ Dawson and Titus Moore each dropped in five points.

“I thought we came out with right ideas, but we didn’t match the intensity from Twiggs,” FPD head coach Michael Walton said. “You have to give a lot of credit to Twiggs County. They are really athletic and exposed some areas where we need to get better.”

The Cobras jumped out to an 11-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and went into the locker room with a 19-11 advantage.

“I thought we still had a chance despite shooting poorly throughout the game,” Walton said. “But they made more plays down the stretch when they had to to get the win.”

The Vikings cut the Cobra lead to as little as seven in the second half but could do no better. Twiggs finished the game on an 18-11 run to secure the victory.

The Cobras were led in scoring by the 13 points of Cortavious Ates. Teammate Ramondez Stephens pumped in 11 points as well.

FPD returns to the court on Friday night, Jan. 23, traveling to Stratford Academy for another Region-7 battle.

The Eagles, who fell to Wilkinson County 74-50 on Tuesday night, defeated FPD 73-59 on Jan. 6.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Stratford’s Grady Smith Gymnasium.
