Baseball Claims 12-0 Region Victory Over Wilkinson County

MACON, Ga. – The FPD baseball team (4-0, 1-0 Reg. 7-A) picked up its first region win and fourth consecutive victory on Friday night, Feb. 27, shutting out the Wilkinson County Warriors 12-0 in six innings at Ben Harden Memorial Field.

Bo Fricks had a team-high four RBI’s, including a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the sixth, and Dalton Cox added three RBI of his own for the Vikings.

“We got off to a slow start, but the bats came alive in the last couple of innings,” FPD head coach Denny Bryant said. “We’ve been battling the weather here recently, so it took us a few innings to get going. But when we did, it was nice to see.”

Sam Jones (1-0) picked up the complete-game win, tossing six innings while allowing two hits and striking out nine batters.

“Sam had a great outing,” Bryant said. “He threw strikes and walked just one batter all night.”

After two scoreless innings, the Vikings struck first in the bottom of the third when Gavin Bloodworth hit a sacrifice-fly to bring home Fricks.

An inning later, the Vikings took a 2-0 lead when Tyler Stubbs singled home Marshall Lyles.

“We kept scraping together some at-bats and put the ball in play,” Bryant said, who saw his Vikings draw 10 walks on the night. “Eventually things started to fall in place.”

The Vikings added two more runs in the fourth inning before bringing the run-rule into effect in an eight-run sixth inning that included Fricks’ big hit.

“Bo got a pitch he could handle and drove it,” Bryant said. “I’m really proud of our guys tonight. They keep sticking to our game plans. The more they do that, the better we will be throughout this season.”

FPD puts its four-game winning streak on the line next week, hosting the Perry Panthers on Monday, March 2.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
