Boys Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to Putnam in Day 1 of Viking Cup

MACON, Ga. – Putnam County’s Gio Sanchez netted a first half goal as the Eagles (1-1) slid by the Vikings (1-1) 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the FPD Soccer Complex in the first Day of the 2015 Viking Cup.

Down 1-0 at intermission, the Vikings looked poised to make a strong second period showing. But Putnam’s Jesus Sanchez thwarted those thoughts, knocking in a goal in the second period to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage.

FPD’s lone goal came late in the second period when Kevin Griggs assisted Spencer Ennis for a score.

The Eagles outshot the Vikings 8-6 on the day. FPD keeper Dontez Johnson picked up four saves in the losing bid.

FPD will look to reverse its quick skid on Thursday afternoon, hosting West Laurens at 5 p.m. at the FPD Soccer Complex.
