Boys Soccer Ends 2015 Viking Cup with 1-0 Shutout of Aquinas

MACON, Ga. – After starting the 2015 Viking Cup with a 2-1 loss to Putnam County, FPD head soccer coach Josh Trieste was pleased with his teams’ response to finish out the tournament.

FPD (3-1) came back with a 5-0 victory over West Laurens on Thursday night and, most recently, shutout the Aquinas Fightin’ Irish 1-0 on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 21, at the FPD Soccer Complex.

“It’s nice to finish up our tournament with a win,” Trieste said. “It didn’t start the way we wanted it to, but we battled back and finished 2-1 for the week.”

Kevin Grigs netted FPD’s goal in Saturday’s win over Aquinas. The Vikings outshot the Fightin’ Irish 9-7. Viking keeper Dontez Johnson picked up six saves in the winning bid.

“We were able to do more things the right way as the tournament progressed,” Trieste said. “We still have a lot of work to do.”

The Vikings will go back to work on the pitch on Friday, Feb. 27, hosting Tift County at 5:30 p.m. at the FPD Soccer Complex.
