Moreau, Jones No-Hit Southwest in 10-0 Viking Victory

MACON, Ga. – FPD’s impressive run of pitching continued on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 21, as pitchers Kevin Moreau and Sam Jones combined for a no-hitter and the Vikings cruised to a 10-0 non-region win in five innings over the Southwest High School Patriots at Ben Harden Memorial Field.

“What a great day for Kevin and Sam,” FPD head coach Denny Bryant said. “Both guys had complete command of their stuff on the mound. Throwing a no-hitter is a great accomplishment and we are all proud of their efforts today.”

Moreau and Jones each recorded six strikeouts on the day, 12 combined, as FPD (3-0) picked up its third consecutive win.

“It was fun to be a part of something like that,” Bryant said. “Whenever your guys have a no-hitter going, you try to do everything you can to help them accomplish that goal.”

FPD was able to accomplish just that through providing enough offense for the duo to work with.

The Vikings scored 10 runs in five innings to bring the run-rule into effect.

Moreau was staked a 1-0 lead after one inning when Marshall Lyles doubled home Bo Fricks.

After another run in the third, the Vikings sent six runners to the dish in the fourth, highlighted by a Will McCormick double that plated Kendall Friar and Gavin Bloodworth.

Later in the same inning, Tyler Stubbs brought home two more runs on a double to right field.

“There’s no doubt that our pitching was great today,” Bryant said. “But we also put the bat on the ball. Everyone keeps chipping in where we need them to in order to win these games.”

The Vikings will put their winning streak on the line on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 24, when Region-7 play begins.

FPD travels to Glascock County for its first road contest of the season. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. in Gibson.
