Patterson’s Game-Winner Sends Lady Vikings Past Wilco. 42-40

MACON, Ga. – Sophomore Kate Patterson hit a game-winning shot off an in-bounds play with 0.4 seconds remaining in regulation, sending the Lady Vikings (6-13, 5-5 Reg. 7-A) past the Wilkinson County Lady Warriors 42-40 on Tuesday night, Feb. 3 at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

The buzzer-beater for Patterson came after the Lady Warriors erased a 28-20 halftime deficit late in the second half.

“We ran the play Coach Griffin called and thankfully it worked,” Patterson said. “It feels really good to win a game like this. It was a great team win for us.”

Griffin echoes those same sentiments.

“I thought tonight was one of the best efforts we’ve had at both ends of the floor,” Griffin said. “We moved well without the basketball and our girls kept fighting, especially in the second half when we didn’t score much.”

Patterson finished with a game-high 14 points while classmate Emma Lako netted 12 points in the victory. Bailey Ruble also chipped in with nine points on three 3-pointers.

“It’s taken a long time, but we have gotten better as this season has progressed,” Griffin said. “Our record doesn’t show it. But I’m still really proud of the girls. Hopefully we can translate this moving forward to the end of the season and into tournament play.”

The Lady Warriors finished with a 6-3 advantage from 3-point range. The Lady Vikings were 9-of-12 from the free-throw line.

Tajia Sapp led the Lady Warriors with 13 points while Ja’Tosjah Bolston netted 11.

The Lady Vikings return to action on Friday night, Feb. 6 hosting the Eagles Landing Christian Academy Lady Chargers at 6:30 p.m. at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center on Senior Night.

“We’re excited for Senior Night,” Griffin said. “We hope we can build off this win tonight.”
