Vikings Claim Fourth at GHSA Area Wrestling Traditionals

MACON, Ga. – The FPD wrestling team took fourth at the GHSA Class-A Area Traditionals on Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

Several Vikings advanced to the Sectional Round by placing fourth in their respective weight classes. Sectionals are set for Saturday, Feb. 7 at Tattnall Square Academy.

“We had a lot of guys compete,” FPD head coach Ken Garvin said. “I am really proud of our guys for their effort. Many of our guys will advance to the Sectional Round.”

Highlighting the events of the day was FPD’s Alan Carlton.

The sophomore defeated Strong Rock’s Ryan Abrahams in the 160 weight-class to claim the Area Traditional Title.

A total of seven wrestlers finished in the top four in their weight class to earn a spot in the Sectional round: Jack Sawyer (145), Casey Johnson (152), Carlton (160), Denson Martin (170), Allen Leach (182), John Lester (195), and Thomas McBride (285).

“Our program continues to thrive because of the hard work our guys put in,” Garvin said. “I know they will represent our school well at Sectionals.”

Eagles Landing Christian took the overall team title with 194 points.
