Vikings Fall in Season Finale at GMC Prep 63-35

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The FPD boys basketball team (6-15) fell in its season finale on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 7, to the GMC Prep Bulldogs (16-7) 63-35 at the Cordell Events Center.

FPD freshman Maurice Gordon finished with a team-high 17 points while classmate C.J. Harris dropped in six in the losing bid.

“I’m proud of our guys on their work all year,” FPD head coach Michael Walton said. “We didn’t finish the way we wanted to and it was a tough year. But we learned a lot through some adversity and I know we’ll come back in the offseason and next year a much bette team for it.”

The Vikings trailed 14-10 at the end of the first quarter, but the Bulldogs went on a 16-2 run in the second quarter to lead 30-16 at halftime.

“We got in a little bit of rut in the second quarter and I think that cost us,” Walton said. “We couldn’t match their scoring run.”

The Bulldogs finished the game on a 33-23 run to take the win and snap a one-game losing skid.

GMC was led in scoring by the 21 points of Troy Campfield. Quatavious Brisco and T.J. Lowe-Foston finished with 16 and 13 points, respectively.

FPD will graduate one senior from its 2014-15 squad in Jam Morris.

“We’ll miss Jam next year and his athletic abilities,” Walton said. “I’m already looking forward to getting back to work to improve on a lot of things.”
