Baseball Falls Short at Tattnall Square 7-0

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity baseball team (6-2, 1-2 Reg. 7-A) struggled on Tuesday night, dropping a 7-0 decision to the Tattnall Square Academy Trojans in Region 7-A action.

“We didn’t get the job done tonight,” FPD head coach Denny Bryant said. “We were in the game and we let them get some base-runners on and score in the fourth inning. Tattnall certainly has a good team and we let that inning escape us.”

Bryant is referring to the fourth inning that saw the Trojans post six runs, the biggest blow to the Vikings coming off the bat of Cole Gaylord.

With two runs already across and a 3-0 lead, Gaylord sent a 1-0 pitch from Austin Cox over the center field fence to give Tattnall a commanding 5-0 advantage.

The Trojans would add two more runs later in the inning as well.

“We didn’t do a good job in that fourth inning,” Bryant said. “We let too many things get away from us and it cost us.”

Trojan pitcher Cory Bartholomew picked up the complete-game win for the Trojans, allowing two hits and striking out 11. Cox was charged with the loss for the Vikings.

Tattnall scored its first run of the night in the third inning on an error by the FPD infield.

The Vikings have now lost two straight after starting the season 6-0.
