Girls Tennis Claims Middle Georgia Invitational Title

DEXTER, Ga. – The FPD varsity girls tennis team can now add a trophy to its already impressive resume for the 2015 season.

The Lady Vikings (9-0) claimed the Middle Georgia Invitational on Saturday afternoon at West Laurens High School by knocking off the South Effingham Lady Mustangs 3-2 in the Championship Match.

“This is a great day for our tennis program,” FPD head coach Derek Lashley said. “Our kids keep working hard and its starting to show for everyone.”

FPD’s Mary Madison Foshee picked up the lone singles win, defeating Makaylah Peavey in three sets (4-6, 6-2, 6-2).

Still needing to gain two wins for the title, though, FPD’s doubles teams stepped up to that challenge.

The Lady Vikings rattled off two wins, the first coming from Summer Sanders/Sydney Reese over Jordan Bisard/Kearsetyn Bergeron 6-1, 6-2 followed by a victory from Yuka Yokoyama/Ruth Samuel 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2.

“I’m really happy for our girls,” Lashley said. “They keep getting better each day at practice. Their work ethic is tremendous and they represent our school in a great way.”

The Lady Vikings return to action on Monday, March 9, hosting Tattnall Square Academy at the John Drew Tennis Center.

First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
