Griggs’ Hat Trick Leads Vikings Past Northside-Columbus 3-1

MACON, Ga. – Kevin Griggs netted a hat trick as the FPD boys soccer team (5-1-1) rolled to a 3-1 victory over the Northside-Columbus Patriots (1-6) on Thursday night, March 12, at the FPD Soccer Complex in non-region play.

“It’s nice to get a win like this one,” FPD head coach Josh Trieste said. “Kevin got some great looks because his teammates found him and he put them in the net.”

Spencer Ennis assisted one of Griggs’ goals for the Vikings, who out-shot the Patriots 12-6 on the night.

Dontrez Johnson picked up five saves in the winning bid while Northside’s Newman snagged five saves.

The Vikings led 2-1 at halftime before outscoring the Patriots 1-0 in the second period.

“I thought we did a lot of things better in tonight’s match,” Trieste said. “We moved better as a team and capitalized on our chances when we had them.”

The Vikings are back in action on Monday, March 16, traveling to The Lovett School at 4:30 p.m.
