Lady Vikings Shutout Savannah Arts 4-0 to Advance to Viking Cup Championship

MACON, Ga. – The FPD girls soccer team (5-0) advanced to the 2015 Viking Cup Championship on Friday night, recording a 4-0 shutout win over the Savannah Arts Academy Lady Panthers at the FPD Soccer Complex.

The victory puts FPD in the Viking Cup Championship match Saturday night at 7 p.m.

FPD used a two-goal performance from Brooke Battson to earn the win over Savannah Arts. Jane Howell and Maggie Johnston each added a score for the Lady Vikings, who remain unbeaten in 2015.

The first goal for the Lady Vikings came off the foot of Johnston on an assist from Jane Howell.

The second goal for FPD came with 28 minutes to play in the first period when Battson drilled in a score on an assist from Johnston.

“I thought our girls played well tonight,” FPD head coach Josh Trieste said. “We spread the ball around and had a lot of girls touch the ball in different areas of the field.”

FPD’s second half goals came from Howell and Battson. Sara Robertson notched two assists in the second period as well.

FPD’s opponent for the Viking Cup Championships will be known by midday on Saturday, March 7.
