Mt. de Sales Cavaliers Hand Vikings First Loss 7-1

MACON, Ga. – The FPD baseball team (6-1, 1-1 Reg. 7-A) saw its six-game winning streak come to an end on Friday night, March 6, falling to the Mount de Sales Academy Cavaliers (3-2, 2-0 Reg. 7-A) 7-1 in Region-7 action at Ben Harden Memorial Field.

“We didn’t get the job done tonight,” FPD head coach Denny Bryant said. “We didn’t match the way they came to play. Hats off to de Sales on the win.”

The Cavaliers led 1-0 at the end of the first inning. Josh Tong reached on an error to score Chandler Robinson.

The Cavs padded to their lead in the fourth inning, plating four runs on three hits to take a 5-0 advantage.

The Vikings scored their only run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth when Daniel Weaver hit a sacrifice-fly to plate Gavin Bloodworth.

Mount de Sales added two more insurance runs in the seventh.

Addison Barth picked up the complete-game win for the Cavaliers, tossing seven innings, scattering four hits and picking up three strikeouts.

FPD pitcher Sam Jones was the losing pitcher, his first of the 2015 season.

“We didn’t do many things right in the game,” Bryant said. “We had three errors and we all know that you’re not going to win many games by having games defensively like we did.”

“But you have to give credit to de Sales,” Bryant said. “They came to play tonight.”

The Vikings will look to snap its one-game skid next week at Tattnall Square Academy on Tuesday, March 10.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
