Stroud, Hanson Lead Boys Golf Past Stratford

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity boys golf team fired a season-best 1-under-par on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Stratford Academy Eagles 143-173 at Healy Point Country Club.

Leading the Viking attack on the links was Charles Stroud and Wesley Hanson, who both finished with a 2-under-par 34 in the nine-hole match.

“We played the best we have played all year,” FPD head coach Charley Chase said. “Our guys came ready to play today and they keep getting better each time they take the course.”

Brantley Wilson also turned in an impressive round for the Vikings, signing his scorecard at even-par (36). Wilson Andress rounded out FPD’s top-four scores with a 3-over 39.

“It was neat to see our guys excited to play,” Chase said. “They are feeding off of each other really well right now. Everyone is pushing each other with their great play.”

The Eagles were led in scoring from Tommy Cleveland’s 6-over 42.

Chase hopes the Vikings continue the season with more stellar play.

“I hope we can continue to play like we did today,” Chase said. “We have some big tournaments coming up, including Area in a few weeks.”

The Vikings return to the links on Monday, March 23, hosting the Jones County Greyhounds at Healy Point.
