Girls Soccer Claims Area Title with 10-0 Victory Over Tattnall

MACON, Ga. – At the end of every Lady Viking soccer season over the last several years, the question always seems to be, “who is going to replace our best player?”

But head coach Josh Trieste never has to fret.

His answer: the team will figure it out.

That’s the exact script the 2015 Lady Vikings have followed: teamwork.

On Tuesday night, April 21, the Lady Vikings (15-3) earned a 10-0 shutout victory over the Tattnall Square Academy Lady Trojans on Senior Night at the FPD Soccer Complex to claim its eighth area/region championship in program history and fifth straight since beginning GHSA play in 2011.

The win guarantees a spot in the 2015 GHSA Class-A State Tournament as well as a first round bye.

“This year we have a special group of young ladies on our team,” Trieste said. “Last year’s loss in the State Title game stung and they have worked very hard this year. They are determined to try their very best at making it back to that game.”

The Lady Vikings took the first step in doing just that on Tuesday night against Tattnall.

Maggie Johnston finished with a hat trick (three goals) and Brooke Battson drilled in two as well to lead FPD to victory.

Kate Patterson, Jane Howell, Maisyn Samples, Sadie Frame and Elizabeth Nelson also chipped in with a goal each. Howell finished with four assists.

“It’s always nice to win the Area in the regular season. And it makes it extra special to do it on Senior Night and at home,” Trieste said. “Now we get to have a few extra days to prepare and get our legs ready for hopefully a long playoff run.”

The Lady Vikings outshot the Lady Trojans 32-1 on the night.

The GHSA will release its 2015 State Tournament brackets later this week.
