Golf Takes Second at GHSA Area Tournament

FORSYTH, Ga. – The FPD varsity boys golf team fired a 22-over-par 307 to take second place at the 2015 Area Golf Tournament at The Club at River Forest on Tuesday, April 14.

The finish sends FPD to the GHSA Class-A Private Sectionals, scheduled for Monday, May 4 at Crystal Lakes.

“Our guys battled and played really well,” FPD head coach Charley Chase said. “We were up against some really good competition and I thought our guys focused on what they needed to do to advance to the next stage.”

Junior Charles Stroud was FPD’s top finisher, carding a 2-over 74 for fourth place overall.

Freshman Wilson Andress continued his impressive and steady play, signing his scorecard at 3-over 75 for fifth place.

Rounding out FPD’s top four scores was senior Brantley Wilson (78) and sophomore Wesley Hanson (80).

Brookstone captured the overall Area Tournament title, shooting a 13-over 297 on the day.

Stratford finished third (319) while Savannah Country Day posted a fourth place finish (320). Both schools will join FPD at the GHSA Sectionals.

“We still have a lot of work to do,” Chase said. “I think our guys are up for the challenge as we try to get back to the state tournament.”

In the girls tournament, FPD sophomore Cassidy Pearson finished with a score of 103, earning third place overall. She will compete at the GHSA Sectionals at Eagle’s Brooke on May 4 as an individual competitor.

“We are proud of Cassidy,” Chase said. “She keeps getting better and we will all be rooting for her at Sectionals.”

The golf teams return to the links on Wednesday, April 22, hosting Tattnall Square Academy in a 9-hole match at Healy Point Country Club at 4 p.m.
