Lady Vikings Trounce Northside 14-1, Rally Late to Best Bryan County 4-2

KATHLEEN, Ga. – The FPD varsity softball team (6-1) rolled to a 14-1 victory in four innings against the Northside High School Lady Eagles (4-4) before rallying late for a 4-2 triumph over the Bryan County Lady Redskins (7-2) at the Brawl in the Fall Houston County Tournament on Friday night, August 21 at Veterans High School.

In the Northside contest, FPD’s bats provided plenty of offense for Karsen Ochs (1-0), who tossed a complete game and tallied four strikeouts in her first career varsity win. The Lady Vikings out-hit the Lady Eagles 11-5 on the night.

Caylee Ann Sutton led the Lady Vikings at the dish against Northside, totaling three RBI on a 2-for-3 performance. Both Peyton Worsham and Emily Rutledge added two RBI in the win.

In the game against Bryan County, Allie Parkerson homered in the second and both squads battled to a 2-2 tie until the top of the sixth inning when Amanda Evans singled home Jill Rogers. Later in the frame, Katie Culver doubled home Evans for a 4-2 FPD advantage.

Worsham (3-1) picked up the win for the Lady Vikings in relief, tallying seven strikeouts while allowing just one walk.

“It’s nice to see us hitting like we are,” Turner said. “Everyone is doing their job at the plate and coming together as a team to win these games.”

And the Lady Vikings certainly are hitting well.

Turner and his Lady Vikings have run-ruled three of their past four opponents by a combined score of 41-3.

“Our pitching has been solid too,” Turner added. “Karsen pitched great tonight and Peyton and Carli (Sutton) are off to good starts. We just have to keep getting better at the little things as a team.”

The Lady Vikings close out the tournament on Saturday morning, August 22 at 9 a.m. against Peach County. The game will be played at Houston County High School.
