Softball Closes Out HoCo Tourney with 8-1 Win Over Peach County

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. – The FPD varsity softball team (7-1) pushed its winning streak to five games on Saturday morning by closing out the Houston County Brawl in the Fall Classic with an 8-1 victory over the Peach County High School Lady Trojans at Houston County High School.

FPD finished the tournament with a 3-0 record with victories over Northside (14-1), Bryan County (4-2) and Peach County.

“Our girls are playing great right now,” FPD head coach Jim Turner said. “It’s exciting to see them feed off of each others’ excitement this early in the season. That confidence and motivation has to continue if we want to keep getting better as a team.

Carli Sutton (3-0) kept her unbeaten record intact, tossing two innings and striking out four batters.

Karsen Ochs also showed another strong outing in the circle, throwing four innings of relief with seven strikeouts.

“Our pitching has been really good to start the season,” Turner said. “We have to have that continue as we move into these pivotal region games ahead.”

Allie Parkerson and Jill Rogers led FPD at the dish, each racking up three RBI’s. The Lady Vikings scored all eight runs in the first two innings to capture the win.

“It’s fun to see things clicking well like they are,” Turner said. “Our girls don’t care who gets the credit, they just want to do their best and hopefully get a win.”

FPD will have an opportunity to make it six straight wins on Tuesday, August 25. The Lady Vikings travel to Irwinton, Ga. for a GHSA Region 7-A contest against the Lady Warriors.

First pitch is scheduled at 5 p.m.

FPD defeated Wilco. 20-3 the last time both squads met on Sept. 16, 2014.
