Volleyball Picks Up Two Road Wins Over West Laurens and Dublin

DEXTER, Ga. – The FPD varsity volleyball team (11-5) kept to its winning ways on Thursday night, claiming a 2-1 (25-20/23-25/25-23) win over the host West Laurens High School Lady Raiders before closing out the evening with a 2-0 (25-8/25-8) shutout of the Dublin High School Fightin’ Irish.

“We are playing with a lot of confidence right now,” FPD head coach Sarah Futo said. “Our young girls are stepping up when we need them to and everyone is playing as one unit.”

In the three set victory over the Lady Raiders, Mackenzie Johnson led the way with nine kills while Morgan Mullis controlled the pace of play with 10 digs. Caitlin Farr totaled five kills and two aces, Lundy Lader added four kills and two block-assists and Bailey Ruble finished with three aces.

“We’re getting contributions from everyone,” Futo said. “It’s not just one girl every night. That makes us better as a team moving forward into our season.”

FPD’s 2-0 match victory over Dublin came with plenty of aces.

The Lady Vikings totaled 22 aces in all. Leading the way was Farr with 8 followed by Kirsten Beach (4), Sophie Seneker (4), Morgan Mullis (3), Emmie Cate Powell (1), Ruble (1) and Lader (1).

“We were really serving well against Dublin,” Futo said. “What I like about our team right now is that we are playing within ourselves. We’re not trying to do the things we know we can’t do.”

The Lady Vikings, winners of their past six matches after Thursday night, will look continue their winning ways on Saturday, August 29, traveling to Houston County High School for the Houston County Playdate.
