Volleyball Snags Two Wins at Upson-Lee

THOMASTON, Ga. – The FPD varsity volleyball team (9-5) picked up its fourth straight win on Tuesday night, defeating the Upson-Lee High School Lady Knights 2-0 (25-20/25-13) before rounding out the evening with a 2-0 victory over the Spalding High School Lady Jaguars 2-0 (25-9/25-8).

“These were two solid wins for our ladies,” FPD head coach Sarah Futo said. “We are starting to find our identity as a team and everyone is learning what role they play. It’s exciting to watch.”

In the Upson-Lee match, Mackenzie Johnson posted five kills along with two aces. Kirsten Beach and Lundy Lader were also on the attack, each totaling four kills. Caitlin Farr and Morgan Mullis also tacked on two aces in the match.

Against the Lady Jaguars, FPD’s Amelia Squires totaled five aces while Johnson came on strong with eight kills. Lader and Emmie Cate Powell each had four aces in the win.

“It’s fun to a part of this group of young ladies,” Futo said. “We just want to keep getting better and keep becoming better volleyball players. We’re young and still learning and things are beginning to click.”

The Lady Vikings are back on the court on Thursday, August 27, traveling to West Laurens High School.

The first match of the evening is against West Laurens at 5 p.m. followed by Dublin High School at 6 p.m.
