Softball Falls at Tattnall 5-1, Takes No. 2 Seed from Region 7B-A

MACON, Ga. – Allie Parkerson homered in the top of the seventh but it was too little too late as the FPD varsity softball team (14-5, 6-2 Reg. 7) fell to the Tattnall Square Lady Trojans (21-3, 6-1 Reg. 7) 5-1 on Tuesday night.

The loss puts FPD as the no. 2 seed from side B in the upcoming Region-7 Tournament while Tattnall takes the no. 1 seed after taking the season series over the Lady Vikings 2-0 (Tattnall bested FPD 3-2 back on Sept. 3.).

“I don’t think we played very inspiring softball,” FPD head coach Jim Turner said. “We weren’t able to do much with their pitcher and you have to give them credit for that.”

After two scoreless innings, the Lady Trojans put up two runs in back-to-back frames, both via the long ball.

In the third inning, Allie Gordon hit a two-run home run that plated Logan Faulk. An inning later in the fourth, Ashley Walker nailed a two-run home run to score Taylor Spivey to give the Lady Trojans a 4-0 advantage.

“We’ll need to locate our pitches a lot better,” Turner said. “We missed our spots tonight and defensively we weren’t sharp.”

Tattnall added its final run of the contest in the fifth inning when Brianna Beasley hit a solo home run for a 5-0 lead.

FPD attempted to rally in the seventh inning.

Allie Parkerson led off with a towering home run to center field to bring the Lady Vikings withing four runs.

After string together back-to-back hits, FPD had runners on second and third with no outs, but could do no more as Tattnall evaded any further damage.

“We just have to come out with more energy,” Turner said. It’s not the end of our season. It hurts because I know how much our girls wanted that number one seed for the region tournament, but we’ll just have to do all we can to keep getting better.”

More information on the Region-7A Tournament on Oct. 6 and 8 will be released in the coming week. Check for details.

FPD returns to the diamond on Wednesday, Sept. 23 with a trip to Crawford County at 5 p.m. followed by a home contest with Pike County on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 5:55 p.m.

FPD is 1-1 against Crawford County in 2015, the last game resulting in an 11-1 victory in four innings.
