Volleyball Earns Split with Perry and Lee County at Home

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity volleyball team (16-9) split its two home matches on Thursday night, claiming a come-from-behind 2-1 (11-25/25-15/25-22) win over the Perry High School Lady Panthers before falling in the nightcap to the Lee County Lady Trojans 1-2 (15-25/25-23/20-25) in non-area action at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

“I’m really happy with the way our girls fought and played tonight,” FPD head coach Sarah Futo said. “We were up against some very fast, talented and challenging opponents and I thought we held our own very well.”

In the match against Perry, Abigail Pierce paced the Lady Viking attack with eight kills, including one ace. Morgan Mullis stood strong for six digs and Kirsten Beach racked up four aces.

Against Lee Couny, the Lady Vikings were led by the seven blocks of Bailey Ruble while Pierce finished with nine kills for a total of 17 on the night. Sophie Seneker and Mackenzie Johnson finished with three digs each.

“I thought we came out and played strong,” Pierce said. “In our match against Perry, we got down early but came together to rally late for the win.”

Ruble says the team continues to get better because everyone knows where to chip in when needed.

“We all feed off of each other very well,” Ruble said, who finished the night with eight blocks.”

Futo hopes this trend continues.

“We have a great group of young ladies who are committed to excellence,” Futo said. “As long as they keep trying to get better and improving every day at practice and in the matches, we will be alright.”

The Lady Vikings return to Area-2 play on Tuesday, Sept. 15, traveling to Mount de Sales for a match against the Lady Cavaliers at 5 p.m. followed by a contest with the Stratford Eaglettes at Mount de Sales at 6 p.m.
