Volleyball Splits with Luella, Strong Rock on the Road

LOCUST GROVE, Ga. – The FPD varsity volleyball team (17-12) traveled to Strong Christian School on Thursday night, Sept. 12 and claimed a 2-1 (16-25/25-17/25-21) victory over the Luella High School Lady Lions before dropping an 0-2 (24-26/13-25) match to the host Lady Patriots.

“Our girls keep battling,” head coach Sarah Futo said. “I don’t think we played to the best of our ability tonight, but getting out of here with a split is still a positive.”

In the match against Luella, the Lady Vikings dropped the first set before claiming back-to-back games for the win.

Caitlin Farr led the way with three kills and Morgan Mullis posted three digs.

“I was proud of the way we battled against Luella,” Futo said. “Anytime a match goes to a third set and you win, you know your girls are doing everything they can to win.”

In the nightcap against Strong Rock, the Lady Patriots proved too much for the Lady Vikings in an 0-2 loss.

Kirsten Beach notched five kills while Amelia Squires added two kills as well. Bailey Rube also had three blocks.

“We’ll get back to work and address some of the details we’re not doing well but keep doing the things well that are winning us some of these matches,” Futo said.

The Lady Vikings return to action on Sept. 22, hosting Mitchell County at 5 p.m. and Pacelli at 7 p.m. at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

Mitchell County and Pacelli wil square off at 6 p.m.
