Softball Draws Excel Christian in First Round of GHSA Class-A State Tournament

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity softball team will host the Excel Christian Lady Eagles from Cartersville, Ga. in the first round of the GHSA Class-A Private State Tournament on Wednesday and Thursday, October 21-22 at the FPD Softball Complex.

Wednesday will be a doubleheader with Game One of the best-of-three series set for 4 p.m. Game Two will follow approximately 30 minutes after Game One.

If necessary, Game Three will be Thursday, Oct. 22 at 5 p.m.

The Lady Vikings (20-6) are the no. 5 seed in the state tournament while the Lady Eagles (15-11) are the no. 12 seed in the 2015 tournament.

A series win for FPD would mean a trip to Columbus, Ga. for the GHSA Class-A Elite Eight. The Lady Vikings have advanced to Elite Eight the past two seasons, finishing third both times.

“We’re excited about the playoffs,” FPD head coach Jim Turner said. “The road ahead is tough for everyone at this point of the year and the slate is wiped clean. We’ll have to be sharp mentally and execute the fundamentals to be successful.”

Admission must be paid for the GHSA State Tournament. For Wednesday’s doubleheader, the cost is $7 per person. If the series shifts to a decisive third game, admission cost on Thursday is $5. Only GHSA Coaching Passes and valid media credentials will be accepted at the gate.
