Volleyball Shuts Out Pacelli 2-0, Advances to Area-2 Semifinals/Finals

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity volleyball program just got one step closer to achieving a first in program history: winning its Area Tournament.

So far, so good.

The Lady Vikings (26-17, 7-2 Area-2) shutout St. Anne Pacelli 2-0 (25-13, 25-10) at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 6.

The win puts FPD in the semifinal round of the Area-2 Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Stratford Academy against Mount de Sales with first serve set for noon.

“This was a great win for our team,” FPD head coach Sarah Futo said. “It was a must-win and we did it and have a chance to play for the Area Championship on Saturday.”

“We looked really good as a unit today,” Futo added. “We are playing well together and taking advantage of opponents’ weaknesses. Our net play is really strong right now and our back row is moving to the ball well.”

Kirsten Beach paced FPD on the attacking end with four kills and three aces. Lundy Lader added three blocks and two kills.

“We played great tonight,” Lader said. “We came together as a team and I feel like we had one of our best matches. We played the net aggressively and our passes were good to get our setters what they needed.”

Lader and Futo said there is still work to be done, though. After all, FPD is one of the four best teams left in Area-2.

“We can’t give up when we get down,” Lader said. “As long as we play our best, there’s no reason to think we can’t win.”

Added Futo: “I feel like the team is at a really good place mentally right now. We are ready for any competition this Saturday.”
