Girls and Boys Swimming Dive into Season-Opening Win

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity girls and boys swimming teams were in action on Friday night, Nov. 6, at the Northside Pool and both squads walked away with a first place finish competing against Warner Robins, Lamar County and Tattnall.

“This was a great way to start our season,” head coach Elizabeth Leslein said, “Both teams came out focused and competed with a lot of energy against some really good opponents.”

In the boys meet, the Vikings posted 370 points for the win. Placing second was Warner Robins (291) followed by Lamar County (37) and Tattnall (27).

Highlights from the boys meet came via many lanes.

FPD’s 200-yard medley relay team of Will Dasher, Austin Hartley, Luke Douglas and Hanny Marone placed first a 2:11.97.

Marone also racked up more first place finishes: 200-yard freestyle (2:06) and 100-yard frestyle (56.33).

Douglas also claimed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:28.71.

In the girls meet, the Lady Vikings totaled 409 points en route to the win. Warner Robins was the runner-up at 249 points followed by Lamar County (49) and Tattnall (11).

FPD’s 200-yard girls medley relay team of Vivianna Chang Haley Harden, Emily Rutledge and Bethany Martinez placed first at 2:27.49.

In the 50-yard freestyle, FPD’s Haley Long, Lindsey Strickland, Rebecca Leigh, Porter Bolles, Harden and Grace Horne finished in second through seventh.

Chang claimed a first place finish in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:33.

The FPD varsity swim teams return to the water on Wednesday, Nov. 11, hosting a meet at the Northside Pool at 3:15 p.m.
