PLAYOFF BOUND! Football Qualifies for 2015 GHSA Class-A Private State Tournament

MACON, Ga. – After what seemed like a dismal campaign five weeks ago, the FPD varsity football team (6-4, 4-2 Reg. 7-A) fought its way back to end the 2015 regular season on a four-game winning streak.

Now, after turning its season around, FPD will travel to Athens, Ga. to play the no. 1-seeded Prince Avenue Christian Wolverines (11-0) on Friday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Wolverine Field in the first round of the GHSA Class-A Private State Playoffs, announced Wednesday, Nov. 11 by the GHSA office. The Vikings are seeded at no. 16.

“To fight back like we did and give ourselves a chance speaks volumes of our football team and the character of our guys,” FPD head football coach Greg Moore said. “We’re excited that we’re in. We couldn’t have done it without our senior leadership along with the younger guys stepping up and buying in as well. Hats off to our guys because it would have been really easy to give up when things weren’t going well, but they didn’t. I’m happy for all of them to get this chance to compete in the postseason.”

The trip to the playoffs marks the fifth consecutive season the Vikings have advanced to postseason play since joining the GHSA in 2010.

FPD will take on Prince Avenue for the second consecutive season in the state tournament. The Wolverines bested the Vikings 55-30 in Athens in 2014 in the first round.

“Now we have to get ready to play a really good Prince Avenue team,” Moore said. “They’re obviously number one for a reason and are well coached. Our staff will have to get in the film room and we’ll all have to get after it at practice each day to be ready.”
