Lady Vikings Push Winning Streak to Three with 50-24 Region Victory Against Mt. de Sales

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity girls basketball team (9-5, 3-0 Reg. 7-A) continued it’s winning ways on Friday night, claiming their third straight win with a 50-24 victory over the Mount de Sales Lady Cavaliers (3-11, 0-2 Reg. 7-A) at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

The win gives the Lady Vikings a 10-game winning streak against the Lady Cavaliers dating back to Feb. 14, 2008. More importantly, it keeps the Lady Vikings in first place in Region 7-A.

“Our girls came out and really put the pressure on them defensively,” FPD head coach John Griffin said. “I thought that was the difference in the game.”

FPD led big after the first quarter of play at 14-2 and 33-5 at halftime.

“We got out and ran well,” Griffin said. “Our ball movement and spacing was really good in tonight’s game. I’m proud of the girls for their effort. They all played hard to earn this win.”

With the game out of reach, FPD outscored Mount de Sales 13-4 in the third quarter before putting in substitutes to get some real-time game experience.

Emma Lako led all scorers with 14 points while Kate Patterson put in 10 points. Both players snagged six rebounds each.

FPD won the battle from behind the arc as well, hitting four 3-pointers to Mount de Sales’ one. FPD’s Bailey Ruble nailed three of the four 3-pointers and finished the night with nine points and five rebounds,

Sydney Reese and Patterson led the squad with three assists each. Lako and Patterson each notched three steals.

“It was just another all-around team effort, especially from the beginning,” Griffin said. “We came out and set the tone early in the game. I hope we can continue to do that more moving forward in the season.”

FPD is back in action quickly, returning to the hardwood on Saturday, Jan. 9, hosting the Brookstone Lady Cougars at at 4 p.m.

The Lady Vikings defeated the Lady Cougars in Columbus, Ga. 50-41 back on Dec. 12.
