Paideia Lady Pythons Squeeze Past Lady Vikings 45-29

ATLANTA – The FPD varsity girls basketball team (10-8) ended a frustrating week on Saturday night in Georgia’s capital city, falling to The Paideia School Lady Pythons (12-5) 45-29 in GHSA Class-A Private non-region action at the Paideia Gymnasium.

The loss is FPD’s third straight and gives the Lady Pythons a 3-0 series lead dating back to the 2011-12 season.

“We came out again and didn’t take care of the basketball early in the game,” FPD head girls basketball coach John Grifin said. “We didn’t play with a lot of energy and just weren’t completely into the game mentally.”

Paideia, who sits one spot behind FPD at no. 12 in the first GHSA Class-A Private Power Ratings from Week One, led 18-9 at the end of the first quarter and 26-16 at halftime.

In the third quarter, FPD’s offense came to life, but it still wasn’t enough to stop a solid attack from Paideia as the Lady Pythons edged out the Lady Vikings 14-11.

“They had a solid inside-outside game,” Griffin said. “We had a hard time stopping them in transition and they weren’t afraid to attack the rim. They also shot well from the outside.”

The Lady Vikings scored just two points in the final quarter while the Lady Pythons put up just five, but it was still plenty to seal the win.

Kate Patterson led the Lady Vikings with 13 points to go with five rebounds and four steals. Bailey Ruble netted five points with six rebounds as well.

The Lady Pythons’ Jordan Battle hit a game-high 14 points with three 3-pointers. Teammate Kai Carter chipped in with 11 points.

“We have to get back to playing with each other and feeding off of each other,” Griffin said. “We’ve strayed away from that the last couple of games. Hopefully we can do that next week.”

The Lady Vikings will have plenty of opportunities to do just that, returning to Region-7A action on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at Twiggs County High School.

Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Jeffersonville, Ga. against the Lady Cobras.

The Lady Vikings knocked off the Lady Cobrason Jan. 2 at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center 44-32.
