Wrestling Takes Second at GHSA Area Traditionals on Jan. 30 to Advance to Sectionals

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity wrestling team had a strong showing this past Saturday at the GHSA Class-A Area Traditionals at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center, placing second as a team and securing a spot at the Area Sectionals on Saturday, Feb. 6 at Irwin County High School.

The following wrestlers advanced to Sectionals for this coming weekend in their respective weight class:

— Tyler Kelly (120) — Fourth Place

— Phillip Carlton (138) — Third Place

— Chancellow Newsome (145) — Fourth Place

— Jack Sawyer (152) – Second Place

— Josh Raines (160) – Third Place

— Alan Carlton (170) – Third Place

— Denson Martin (182) – CHAMPION!

— Allen Leach (195) – Fourth Place

All wrestler will compete at Irwin County for the GHSA Sectional Round this Saturday.

“I’m really proud of our team,” FPD head coach Ken Garvin said. “They’ve worked hard all season long and are well deserving of a high finish. Getting past Area is tough and getting past Sectionals is even tougher.”

“But I wouldn’t want any other group of guys to go after it,” Garvin added.
