Baseball Drops 11-0 Region Decision at Stratford Academy

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity baseball team (7-3, 1-1 Reg. 7-A) picked up it’s first region loss on Tuesday night, falling to their long-time rival in the Stratford Academy Eagles (5-2, 1-0 Reg. 7-A) 11-0 in six innings at the Bubber Adams Baseball Complex at Bobby Hendley Field.

“It was just a very frustrating night for us,” FPD head coach Denny Bryant said. “We got outplayed. We didn’t hit well, made some mistakes in the field and gave them too many runs on the mound.”

The Eagles lead 1-0 after two innings of play, but then put the game out of reach over the final four frames by scoring 10 unanswered runs.

Jon Michael O’Quinn and Cliffton Olmstead teamed up for six RBI for the Eagles, three apiece, throughout the contest and finished a combined 3-for-8 from the dish.

Eagle pitcher Jackson Pyles threw a complete game and struck out six with no walks and allowing three hits.

“Stratford has a really good baseball team,” Bryant said, “They showed that tonight and we will have to be ready for them when they come to our place. We need to fix some of the problems we are having.”

The Vikings will get that chance to play Stratford again very soon, taking on Eagles in the next game on the 2016 schedule on Friday night, March 11.

First pitch is scheduled or 7 p.m. at FPD’s Ben Harden Memorial Field.
