Baseball Falls at Perry 12-2 in Five Innings

PERRY, Ga. – The FPD varsity baseball team led 2-1 for 4.5 innings on the road against the Perry Panthers.

But the Panthers (8-8) plated 11 runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning to defeat the Vikings (10-6) 12-2 on Wednesday night in non-region play.

The loss is FPD’s third in four games. In that span, the Vikings have bee outscored 35-13.

The Vikings jumped out front in the top of the first inning when Gavin Bloodworth doubled home Jack Sawyer and Bo Fricks for an early 2-0 lead.

The Panthers added their first run of the contest in the bottom of the second when Christian Valdivia singled in Adrew Tarrer t0 make it 2-1 in favor of FPD.

After the Vikings and Panthers traded outs in the third and fourth, the Panthers escaped trouble in the top of the fifth and headed to the bottom half still down one run.

But in the bottom of the inning, the Panther bats came to life.

Perry scored 11 runs on five hits, highlighted by a grand slam by Tarrer that plated Drew Martens, Taylor Holtzclaw and Ben Newhouse.

Those 11 runs brought the run-rule into effect to end the game with Perry earning the win and the season series at 2-0.

Ryan Thompson picked up the win on the mound for the Panthers while Garrett West was tacked with the loss for the Vikings.

FPD returns to action on Thursday, March 24, traveling to Tattnall Square Academy in Macon for a GHSA Class-A Region-7 contest against the Trojans.

Tattnall defeated FPD earlier this week on Tuesday, March 22 10-0.

First pitch at Tattnall is slated for 7 p.m.
