Baseball Rallies for 11-4 Victory over AAAA Mary Persons

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity baseball team (9-3) rallied from a two-run deficit by scoring eight runs in the fifth inning for an 11-4 non-region win the AAAA Mary Persons High School Bulldogs (8-5) at Ben Harden Memorial Field on Monday night, March 14.

The win gives FPD a two-game winning streak while Mary Persons ends a two-game run.

The Bulldogs scored three runs in the first inning when Stroud smashed a three-run home run to left field to score Agnew and Skelton.

The Vikings pulled within two runs in the bottom of the third inning on a Will McCormick sacrifice fly to right field to plate Daniel Weaver.

The Bulldogs bit back in the top of the fourth inning for their final score of the contest on a Steed double that brought in Stroud.

After that, the the Viking bats went to work.

In the bottom of the fifth, FPD loaded the bases and brought in a run when Gavin Bloodworth was hit by a Steed pitch to make it a 4-2 game in favor of Mary Persons.

That then opened the floodgates for the Vikings offensively.

Daniel Weaver brought in a run with a single, McCormick reached on an error to score two runs, followed by a Jack Sawyer double to plate Bo Fricks.

FPD ended the eight-run scoring barrage on a Kendall Friar ground out to bring in McCormick followed by Ryan Jones single to plate Sawyer.

In the blink of an eye, FPD led 10-4 after five frames and had complete control of the game.

FPD added one more run in the sixth inning when Garrett West hit a fielder’s choice to bring home Tee Turley.

West (3-0) also picked up the win on the hill for FPD, tossing five innings while allowing one hit and one run and striking out six. Steed took the loss for Mary Persons allowing six runs in one inning of work.

After a couple of days off, the Vikings return to the diamond on Thursday, March 17, hosting the Schley County Wildcats in non-region play.

First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. at Ben Harden Memorial Field.
