Boys and Girls Soccer Close Out Border Classic with Wins

EVANS, Ga. – The Lady Viking and Viking offense was on full display on Saturday afternoon, March 19, in the final day of the Border Classic as the varsity girls soccer team (7-0-3) earned a 4-0 shutout win over Evans followed by a 4-2 victory for the varsity boys (5-0-3) against Grovetown.

Altogether, both squads scored a whopping eight goals on the day to end the tournament in winning fashion.

The Lady Vikings defeated Evans 4-0 lead by goals from Maggie Johnston, Jansyn Samples, Elizabeth Nelson and Molly Lee.

FPD led 2-0 at halftime (Samples, Johnston) and netted two more scores in the second period (Nelson, Lee) to seal the win.

Johnston, Samples, Kate Patterson and Kailey Bohan each picked up an assist for the Lady Vikings as FPD out-shot Evans 17-4.

FPD goalie Caylee Ann Sutton picked up four saves before coming out for Harrison Martin, who corralled one save.

The Vikings followed suit later in the day against Grovetown to wrap up the three-day tournament.

FPD led 2-0 with 20 minutes to play in the first period after Stephen Summerow knocked in two free kick goals. Dane Wiggins added a goal before intermission on an assist by Henry Middlebrooks for a 3-0 lead.

In the second period, Wiggins scored for the second time on an assist from Spencer Ennis while Grovetown scored two goals late.

The Vikings controlled the tempo of the match, out-shooting Grovetown 14-6.

FPD keepers Dontrez Johnson and Roy Shen each had one save in the winning bid.

The Lady Vikings and Vikings will have four days off until their next match on Thursday, March 24 against Stratford Academy at the FPD Soccer Complex in Area-2 competition.

Kickoff for the guys game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. followed by the girls match at 7:30 p.m.
