Boys Golf Finishes Fourth of 22 Schools at Lafayette Invitational

LAFAYETTE, Ga. – The FPD varsity boys golf team took to the links for their first 18-hole tournament of the season on Saturday morning, March 12, at the Lafayette Golf Course, placing fourth of 22 schools with a team score of 307.

“I was really pleased with how our guys plays,” FPD head coach Charley Chase said. “For this being our first tournament against some top-notch competition, I think our guys competed to the best of their ability on a course we only see once a year.”

Wesley Hanson paced the Vikings, firing a 1-over 73. Right behind him was Charles Stroud with a 2-over 74.

“Our team was really happy for Wesley and Charles today,” Chase said. “They each had great rounds, played smart, and stayed in the round mentally the entire 18 holes.”

Rounding out FPD’s top four scorers was Jay Spivey, who signed his scorecard at 78 (+6). Wilson Andress finished with a 10-0ver 82.

“I think we know where we stand as a team after our first round, but there’s a lot of golf to be played. I’m excited to see the guys compete the rest of the season as we try to accomplish many of the team goals we have set.”

The Vikings are back in action on Tuesday, March 15, traveling to Ellaville, Ga. for a 9-hole match against Schley County.

Opening tee shots are set for 4 p.m.
