Girls and Boys Soccer Sweep Mount de Sales in Area-2 Play

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity girls and boys soccer teams were in action Friday night, hosting the Mount de Sales Lady Cavaliers and Cavaliers in Area-2 play at the FPD Soccer Complex with bot squads coming away with victories.

In the early match of the evening, the Lady Vikings (5-0-1, 2-0 Area-2) kept their unbeaten record alive with a 2-0 shutout win over the Lady Cavaliers (3-2-1, 2-1 Area-2).

The Lady Vikings got all of their scoring in the first half of action on a goal from Kate Patterson and Jansyn Samples.

Elizabeth Nelson also notched an assist on one of the Lady Vikin scores.

The Lady Vikings held the advantage on the offensive end, out-shooting the Lady Cavaliers 12-2.

Mount de Sales’ Renee Hutton totaled three saves while FPD’s Caylee Ann Sutton finished with one.

In the nightcap, the Vikings (3-2-1, 1-1 Area-2) picked up an impressive 3-1 victory over the Cavaliers (3-3-1, 3-1 Area-2) to complete the sweep.

Dane Wiggins was on fire, finishing with a hat trick (three goals) on the night.

Wiggins struck for his first goals in the first period and Mount de Sales netted a goal from Nick Maiorana for a 1-1 tie at half.

But in the second period it was all Wiggins and the Vikings.

Wiggins scored two more goals to lead FPD to the Area-2 win. Noah Lyu, Austin Cox and Spencer Ennis all assisted Wiggins on his goals.

FPD out-shot Mount de Sales by a slim margin of 12-11.

Viking keeper Dontrez Johnson picked up seven saves while Cavalier goalie Ryan Murphey finished with four.

FPD is back in action on Thursday, March 17.

The Vikings and Lady Vikings travel to a three-day tournament at the Border Classic. The Vikings will play Evans on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. and the Lady Vikings will take on Westminster of Augusta in day one of the tourney.
