Schley County too Much for Vikings in 9-1 Home Loss

MACON, Ga. – FPD’s bats were quieted on Thursday night, March 17, falling to the Schley County High School Wildcats (12-2) 9-1 in non-region play at Ben Harden Memorial Field.

The loss snaps a two-game losing streak for the Vikings (9-4) after wins against Mary Persons and Stratford Academy.

The game remained scoreless until the third inning when the Wildcats posted five runs in the top of third.

After a Sellars double that plated Vanlerberghe, the Vikings dropped a third strike and the throw to first proved to no avail and led to two more Wildcat runs for a 3-0 lead.

The Wildcats rounded out the five-run frame with a Barry RBI single and a Wall RBI single for a 5-0 lead.

The Vikings scored their lone run of the contest in the fourth inning when Bo Fricks scored on a wild pitch to make it a 5-1 contest.

The Wildcats would shut the door on the Vikings, though, scoring four unanswered, all coming in the top of the fifth.

With the bases loaded, Usry was hit by a pitch to score a run followed by a Sellars double to center field to bring in Hutchens and Leeder for an 8-1 Wildcat lead.

Schley tacked on its final run on a sacrifice fly to left field by Patrick to score Usry.

M. Leeder picked up the win on the hill for the Wildcats, tossing four innings, scattering two hits and allowing one run. He also struck out two while walking three. C. Patrick worked three innings in relief, allowing one hit and striking out two.

Austin Hartley took the loss on the mound for FPD.

The Vikings are back in action quickly, traveling to Wilkinson County High School for a Region 7-A contest against the Warriors on Friday, March 18.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Irwinton, Ga.
