Baseball Draws George Walton in Round One of GHSA Class-A Private State Tournament

MACON, Ga. – The GHSA released the 2016 Class-A Private State Baseball Tournament bracket today, April 27, with the Vikings (14-8), the no. 14 seed, traveling to Monroe, Ga. and George Walton Academy (22-4), the no. 3 seed, on Friday-Saturday, April 29-30 for a best-of-three game series.

George Walton and the Bulldogs earned the no. 3 seed for the tournament after claiming the Region 8-A Championship. FPD earned a bid with a power rating of 14 at season’s end.

Games 1 and 2 will be played on Friday, with Game 1 starting at 4 p.m. followed by Game 2 at 6:30 p.m.

If necessary, Game 3 will be Saturday at 2 p.m.

The last time the Vikings and Bulldogs faced each other, interestingly enough, came in the 2010 GISA AAA State Tournament, FPD’s last year in the league, when the Vikings knocked off the Bulldogs in three games en route to it’s last baseball State Championship.

In Game 1, the Vikings routed the Bulldogs 14-2 but the Bulldogs forced a Game 3 with a 7-3 victory in Game 2. In the third and decisive game, the Vikings claimed an 8-5 win to advance in the postseason.

In its last six games against the Bulldogs, the Vikings are 4-2.
