Baseball Drops 4-2 Contest to GMC Prep in First Round of Region-7 Tournament

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity baseball team struggled in its first round Region-7A Tournament opener on Monday afternoon at Tattnall Square Academy, falling 4-2 to the GMC Prep Bulldogs.

The Vikings will now await official word from the GHSA on a potential Class-A Private State Playoff berth in the coming week.

The Vikings jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top half of the first inning when Ryan Jones hit a sacrifice fly to score Will McCormick.

But in the bottom half, the Bulldogs answered right back with a score on a Patrick Lewis double to right field that plated Scott Niblett.

After two scoreless innings, the Bulldogs broke the tie in the fourth inning, plating one run on an infield single by Niblett that brought in Zach Spiler.

An inning later the Bulldogs sent two more runs home for a 4-1 advantage on a Dustin Hostetter single to score Lewis and Cody McCray.

FPD tried to rally in the top of the seventh, but could score just one run that came with the bases loaded when Gavin Bloodworth was hit by a pitch to bring in Daniel Weaver.

Cory Bivins picked up the win on the hill for the Bulldogs, tossing six innings while allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts.

FPD’s Austin Hartley was tacked with the loss.
