Girls Soccer Falls to Stratford 1-0 in Area-2 Title Match

MACON, Ga. – The FPD offense was stymied and the Stratford offense provided just enough late in the match as the Eaglettes (13-0, 5-0 Area-2) defeated the Lady Vikings (11-2-3, 4-1 Area-2) 1-0 on Thursday night at the FPD Soccer Complex to claim the 2016 Area-2 Championship.

Both squads battled early on in the first period, but couldn’t get a goal to cross, thus heading into intermission deadlocked at 0-0.

But in the second half, the Eaglettes, who out-shot the Lady Vikings 17-6 on the night, scored via a goal from Ellie Peterson on an assist from Bella Gill with 14 minutes to play in the match.

The Lady Vikings failed to score at the end of regulation and the Eaglettes won the contest and Area Title.

FPD keeper Caylee Ann Sutton totaled six saves in the match.

The Lady Vikings will be the no. 2 seed from Area-2 entering in to the GHSA Class-A State Tournament in 2016.

Before the Tournament, though, the Lady Vikings will close out the regular season on Friday, April 22, hosting Irwin County on Senior Night.

Kickoff for the girls match is set for 5 p.m. and the boys will follow at 7 p.m. The Senior Night Ceremony will be in between matches.
