Girls Tennis Falls to St. Francis 4-1 in First Round GHSA State Playoff Match

ROSWELL, Ga. – The FPD varsity girls tennis team (12-8), the no. 3 seed from Area-1 Private, saw its season come to a close on Monday, falling to St. Francis, the no 2 seed from Area-4, 4-1 in the first round of the 2016 GHSA Class-A Private State Tennis Tournament.

The loss brings an end to the season for Lady Vikings for four seniors: Sydney Reese, Lizzie Reed, Summer Sanders and Brynna Wilson.

“Our girls wanted to make state and they did,” FPD head coach Derek Lashley said. “That was one of their goals entering into this season. I’m so proud of their effort and our senior girls for their leadership all season long.”

FPD’s lone win of the day came in a doubles match with Lizzie Reed/Anna Leigh Durham, who claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

All three of FPD’s singles squads (Maggie Moody, Summer Sanders, Sydney Reese) each fell in two sets as did the other doubles team of Dallis Foshee/Katyln Smaha for the Lady Vikings.

“We knew the road would be tough, but the girls have nothing to be ashamed of,” Lashley said. “They always leave everything on the court. Hats off to St. Francis as they advance in the tournament.
