Vikings Throw No-No to Defeat Southwest 11-3 on Senior Night

MACON, Ga. – Senior Night 2016 will be one forever remembered by the Class of 2016.

The Vikings (12-6) jumped on the Southwest High School Patriots (6-13-1) for an 11-3 victory at Ben Harden Memorial Field.

What was so special?

Four Viking pitchers – Garrison Hotchkiss, Daniel Weaver, Bo Fricks and Mac Grice – all teamed up to throw a no hitter against the Patriots, combining for eight strikeouts and five walks.

“That was special to see,” Bryant said of the no hitter. “Garrison, Daniel and Bo are all seniors so that is something they can hold on to the rest of their lives.”

All three Southwest runs came in the first inning, one on an error and the other two on steals to home.

FPD bounced right back in the bottom of the first when Ryan Jones hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Dalton Cox followed by a Southwest balk that plated Fricks to make it 3-2 in favor of Southwest.

After a scoreless top of the second, the Viking bats heated up in the bottom half, scoring six runs on four hits, the highlight of the inning coming on a Bloodworth double to score Jones and Fricks.

The Vikings added a run in the third, fourth and fifth to make it an 11-3 contest.

“This was a great win on Senior Night for our guys,” Bryant said. “You always want to send your seniors out on a good note and honor them. They have been pivotal to our success as a program and we wouldn’t be the team we are without their leadership and hard work on and off the field.”

The Vikings are back in action Thursday, April 7, for the start of a three-game road swing, taking on the Mount de Sales Academy Cavaliers in a Region 7-A contest.

FPD defeated the Mount de Sales 11-6 earlier this week on Monday, April 4 at Ben Harden Memorial Field.

First pitch Thursday is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Cavalier Fields.
