Cross Country Rolls Out 2016 Schedule

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity cross country program and head coach Walker Middlebrooks have released the 2016 regular season schedule, announced today, August 3.

“We are really looking forward to this upcoming year,” Middlebrooks said, who will take the reigns of both the varsity girls and boys programs. “Everyone has been working hard all summer to better their times and the team. It should be fun to watch.”

After the annual pre-season banquet in the FPD Cafeteria on August 23, both squads start off at the Wesleyan Invitational hosted by The Wesleyan School in Peachtree Corners, Ga. on Saturday, August 27 at 8:30 a.m.

The meet is a special one to Viking fans, as former head coach Chad McDaniel is at the helm of the Wesleyan cross country program.

September is full of actions for the Lady Vikings and Vikings with five meets on the schedule, two of which are hosted by FPD.

On Saturday, Sept. 3, FPD will run at the Berry College Clara Bowl in Rome, Ga. at 8:45 a.m. before returning to Macon to compete in the Stratford Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 5 p.m.

The Warner Robins Invitational is up next a week later on Sept. 13 at 5:20 p.m.

FPD will then host back-to-back meets on Wednesday Sept. 21 and 28 at its home course of the Georgia Industrial Children’s Home. Both meets will begin at 4:50 p.m.

After a week and a half off, both squads return to the course at the Mount de Sales Meet at Cavalier Fields on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m.

FPD rounds out its regular season schedule at the Last Chance Meet in Carrollton, Ga. hosted by Carrollton High School at a time to be determined.

Postseason play will be Wednesday or Thursday, Oct. 26-27, as the program hosts the GHSA Class-A Area-1 Private Meet at the Georgia Children’s Home at a time to be determined.

If both squads finish in the Top-4 at the Area Meet, they will qualify for the GHSA Class-A Private State Meet in Carrollton on Friday, Nov. 4 at 9 a.m.

“Our girls and guys know what they need to do to improve as the season progresses,” Middlebrooks said. “I know they will have a great work ethic and a positive approach to the season.”
