Kristy Alvarez Era Begins with 4-0 Shutout Over Northside for Softball

MACON, Ga. – The Kristy Alvarez era started off on the right foot for the FPD varsity softball program on Wednesday night, August 10.

The Lady Vikings (1-0) knocked off the 6A Northside High School Lady Eagles (0-1) on the road 4-0.

“It’s great to start our season this way,” Alvarez said, who took over the program earlier this spring. “Our girls have been working hard all off-season and they came out determined against a very good Northside team.”

Sophomore Karsen Ochs picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Vikings. The righty threw a complete game, allowing just five hits while striking out 10.

“I thought our pitching and defense was great tonight,” Alvarez said. “Karsen threw the ball well and trusted the defense behind her to make the plays and they did.”

At the plate, the Lady Vikings scored four runs on eight hits while leaving eight aboard.

In a 0-0 game, FPD began its scoring by plating two runs in the top of the third inning when Parkerson doubled home Emily Rutledge who had singled earlier in the inning.

Amanda Evans then reached first on an infield error by the Lady Eagles that plated Whitney Sikes who was courtesy running for Parkerson.

The Lady Vikings added a run in fourth inning when Ochs singled home Katie Culver to make it a 3-0 lead.

“We hit well tonight when we needed to,” Alvarez said. “We probably could have scored a few more times, but our girls got the job done when it was needed the most.”

FPD final run came via the bat of Evans.

With one out in the top of the seventh, Evans blasted a solo home run to make it a 4-0 Lady Vikings lead.

“This is a great start and all the credit goes to our girls,” Alvarez said. “We have a lot of games to play but it’s definitely nice to begin this way.”

The Lady Vikings are back in action on Saturday, August 13, hosting a double-header against Rutland High School and Perry High School.

First pitch against Rutland is slated for 10 a.m. with Perry to follow at 2 p.m. at the FPD Softball Complex.
