Softball Sails Past Pike County Lady Pirates 4-3 in Extra Innings

ZEBULON, Ga. – For a second consecutive game, the Lady Vikings (8-2) were forced into extra innings.

On Thursday, the FPD defeated Veterans 4-1 in eight innings.

And on Friday night, the Lady Vikings walked away with another extra inning win, this time a 4-3 victory over the Pike County Lady Pirates (7-4) in eight innings.

FPD plated two runs in the top of the eighth while holding Pike to one run in the bottom half to seal the game.

Evened up at 2-2 with the tie-breaker rule in effect (the last batter from the previous inning is on second to begin the frame), Abbey Surles put the Lady Vikings ahead 3-2 with a RBI single to score Whitney Sikes.

One batter later, Carli Sutton singled to plate Amanda Evans who had doubled earlier in the inning to give FPD a 4-2 lead.

In the bottom half, Sutton allowed just one run on a Madison Kirskey single that scored Ragan Byrom.

FPD led 2-0 at the end of the first inning when Allie Parkerson blasted a two-run home run that scored Karsen Ochs.

The Lady Pirates evened the contest in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out single by Sydnie Foster to score Makenzie English and Kristyn Nix.

Sutton picked up her third win of the campaign, collecting four strikeouts on the night.

The Lady Vikings return to action on Monday, August 29, hosting the Bleckley County Lady Royals from Cochran, Ga.
