Softball Sinks Pike County Lady Pirates 9-0 in Five Innings

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity softball team (3-1) pushed its winning streak to two games on Monday evening, shutting out the Pike County High School Lady Pirates (3-2) 9-0 in five innings at the FPD Softball Complex.

After a scoreless top of the first, the Lady Vikings wasted no time getting on the board.

After a walk by Allie Parkerson (and Cardin Weaver courtesy running), Amanda Evans blasted a 1-2 pitch from Lacy Hood over the left field fence for a 2-0 Lady Viking lead.

Pike County went scoreless in the second but the Lady Vikings furthered their lead, scoring seven runs on four hits, the biggest hit of the inning coming on a, Abbey Surles grand slam to left center to make it 9-0 Lady Vikings.

The Lady Vikings would hold the Lady Pirates for three more innings, forcing the run-rule to come into effect and eventually garner the win.

Karsen Ochs (3-0) picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Vikings. The righty tossed five shutout frames and allowed three hits while striking out eight batters. Ochs surrendered just one walk in the contest.

The Lady Vikings out-hit the Lady Pirates 7-3 despite recording three errors in the field.

FPD also honored former long-time head softball coach Jim Turner before the game. Turner, who stepped down during the off-season, threw out the ceremonial first pitch of Monday’s game.

FPD is back in action at the Houston County Fall Brawl on Friday, August 19 with two games on the schedule. Game one features FPD and Dodge County at 3:30 p.m. played at Houston County while the second game will see the Lady Vikings take on Lee County at 7:15 p.m. at Perry High School.
