Softball Blasts Wilkinson County for 17-2 Region Win

MACON, Ga. – The Lady Vikings never looked back after the first inning.

FPD (10-3, 2-0 Reg. 7-A) rolled to a 17-2 run-ruling victory over the Wilkinson County Lady Warriors (1-6, 1-1 Reg. 7-A) on Tuesday afternoon at the FPD Softball Complex.

After a scoreless top half of the first, lead-off hitter Karsen Ochs drilled a home run over the left center field fence to give the Lady Vikings a 1-0 lead.

Then, after three walks, the Lady Vikings made it 4-0 on an error by Lady Warrior center fielder Shyann Moore on a ball hit by Abbey Surles.

Carli Sutton was hit by a pitch to load the bases again, forcing the Lady Warriors to bring Dezzy Goodin as the new pitcher.

Goodin walked the first batter she faced to bring in Jordan Fischer for a 5-0 led.

Sadie Frame followed with a single to plate Cassie Sutton (courtesy running for Allie Parkerson) for a 6-0 advantage.

Ochs returned to the plate a smashed a 2-1 offering from Goodin over the right field fence for a grand slam and a 10-0 FPD lead.

The Lady Warriors plated two in the top of the second inning.

With Akhiya Chatman on third and Whitney Underwood on first, Iyonna Hughes hit a deep single in the outfield to plate two and make it a 10-2 FPD lead.

FPD responded in the bottom half with seven runs, bringing the run-rule into effect.

Sutton (4-2) retired the side in the top of the third to end the game. The righty tallied five strikeouts en route to the victory in the circle.

Ten different players each had one RBI in Tuesday’s win for the Lady Vikings.

FPD is now 9-0 all-time against Wilkinson County in the GHSA era.

The Lady Vikings return to the diamond on Wednesday, Sept. 7, hosting the Northside High School Lady Eagles in a make-up game from August 23 that was rained out.

First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the FPD Softball Complex.
