Softball Powers Past Stratford Academy 10-2

MACON, Ga. – The no. 4 FPD varsity softball team (13-3, 4-0 Reg. 7-A) pushed its winning streak to five games on Tuesday night in an offensive slug-fest resulting in a 10-2 victory over the arch-rival Stratford Academy Eaglettes (15-2, 2-2 Reg. 7-A) on the road.

The Lady Vikings out-hit the Eaglettes 21-7 and scored a run in five of the seven innings played.

FPD jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Allie Parkerson singled home Karsen Ochs followed by an Abbey Surles single to plate Parkerson.

An inning later, FPD added two more runs, both on an Emily Rutledge single to bring home Gracie Slade and Sadie Frame for a 4-0 advantage.

After a scoreless third inning, the Lady Vikings added their fifth run of the contest in the top of the fourth when Amanda Evans singled home Rutledge.

The Eaglettes cut the deficit to three runs in bottom half of the fourth.

Hannah Lovett singled to score Alyssa Orona followed by a ground-out by Morgan Mathis that plated Ashlin Jackson for a 5-2 Lady Viking lead.

But the Lady Vikings slammed the door in the sixth inning, sending 10 batters to plate and scoring four runs.

Surles nailed a single to score Parkerson and Carli Sutton blasted a double to the center field fence to plate Evans and Surles for a commanding 8-2 lead.

Later in the inning, Frame brought in Sutton on a single for a 9-2 advantage.

FPD’s final run came in the top of the seventh when Sutton singled in Parkerson to make it 10-2 in favor of the Lady Vikings.

Karsen Ochs (9-1) picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Vikings.

The righty tossed a complete game, allowing two runs, scattering seven hits while striking out seven batters.

Tori Dover (12-2) was tacked with the loss for Stratford.

With Tuesday’s win, FPD is now 5-1 all-time against Stratford in the GHSA era.

FPD returns to the diamond on Thursday, Sept. 15 for another GHSA Class-A Region 7 contest, taking on the Mount de Sales Lady Cavaliers.

The Lady Vikings bested the Lady Cavs 8-5 in the first meeting of the season on Sept. 1 at the FPD Softball Complex.

First pitch on Thursday is set for 5:55 p.m. at Cavalier Fields.
