Softball Sets Record, Win Streak to 12 in 6-0 Region Victory Over Tattnall

MACON, Ga. – The no. 1 ranked FPD varsity softball team (20-3, 7-0 Reg. 7-A) made program history on Thursday night, defeating the no. 3 ranked Tattnall Square Academy Lady Trojans (16-5, 5-2 Reg. 7-A) 6-0 for the teams’ 12th straight win in its GHSA era at the FPD Softball Complex.

FPD bested the old record for consecutive victories set in 2014 when the squad won 11 straight games from August 21-Sept. 12.

On Thursday night, FPD wasted little time in attempting to achieve the record and defeat its cross-town rival all in one.

In the bottom of the first, Amanda Evans single home Karsen Ochs with two outs to give the Lady Vikings a 2-0 lead.

Tattnall pitcher Ashleigh Morton and FPD hurler Karsen Ochs would battle for four straight scoreless innings, both escaping multiple run-scoring situations.

But FPD’s bats, along with help from the Tattnall defense, scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal the win and set the new record.

The Lady Vikings sent eight batters to plate, starting with singles from Allie Parkerson and Evans.

Abbey Surles then reached base on an infield error to load the bases.

Carli Sutton hit into a fielder’s choice and Tattnall’s throw home to force out Parkerson was dropped by the catcher to make it 2-0 FPD.

One batter later, Katie Culver singled home Evans for a 3-0 lead.

Gracie Slade stepped in and sent Morton’s 2-2 offering into left field for a base hit to plate Surles, but Sutton was thrown out at the plate to make it 4-0 FPD.

Later in the inning, Ochs singled home Culver and Slade before being thrown out at third for a 6-0 commanding lead.

Ochs (11-1) retired the side in order in the top of the seventh for the win. The righty struck out eight batters and scattered three Lady Trojan hits on the night.

With the win, the Lady Vikings earn the regular season series sweep over the Trojans and lead the all-time GHSA series 5-3.

FPD, who is ranked no. 1 in the GHSA Class-A Private Power Ratings, the SCORE Atlanta Class-A Private Poll and the AJC Class-A Private Poll will take on long-time rival Stratford Academy on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

The Lady Vikings defeated the Eaglettes on the road on Sept. 13 during the current 12-game winning streak.

First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 5:55 p.m. at the FPD Softball Complex.
