Softball Topples Wilkinson County 14-2 in Four Innings for 11th Straight Win

IRWINTON, Ga. – The FPD varsity softball team (19-3, 6-0 Reg. 7-A) defeated the Wilkinson County Lady Warriors (1-8, 1-7 Reg. 7-A) 14-2 on Tuesday night in four innings en route to its 14th consecutive win.

The streak ties best in the GHSA era in FPD Fastpitch program history when the Lady Vikings won 14 in a row from August 21-Sept. 12.

On Tuesday night, FPD jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Allie Parkerson grounded out to plate Karsen Ochs.

The Lady Warriors answered in the bottom half when Iyonnah Hughes singled home Ahnila Owens to even up the contest at 1-1.

FPD regained the lead in the top of the second and never looked back, outscoring the Lady Warriors 13-1 over the final three innings.

In the second, Katie Culver and and Gracie Slade hit back-to-back RBI singles for a 3-1 lead followed by a bases loaded walk by Emily Rutledge to bring in Culver for a 4-1 advantage.

The Lady Warriors added their final run of the contest in the bottom of the second when Owens plated Dezzy Goodin on a single to make it a 4-2 game.

FPD’s bats got hotter, plating seven runs in the third inning.

Carli Sutton drove in Abbey Surles on a triple and Culver singled home Sutton for a 6-2 Lady Viking lead. Culver would later score on an error by the left fielder for a 7-2 advantage.

Later in the inning, Rutledge brought in Slade on a single and Amanda Evans hit a sacrifice-fly to right field that scored Sade Frame for a 9-2 lead.

Surles also added a RBI single in the inning for a 10-2 lead followed by a run scored by Cardin Weaver (courtesy running for Parkerson) on a Wilco. infield error to make it 11-2 Lady Vikings.

FPD pitcher Carli Sutton held the Lady Warriors scoreless in the bottom of the third.

In the top of the fourth, the Lady Vikings added three runs, the first on a Parkerson double to score Ochs followed by an Amanda Evans 2-run home run, her eighth of the season, to make it 14-2 Lady Vikings. (Evans is now tied for first with Parkerson in home runs in 2016. Both are new single-season program records.)

Sutton (8-2) retired the side in the bottom of fourth for the win, picking up her eighth straight win in the circle for FPD, tossing four innings and striking out six.

Goodin took the loss for the Lady Warriors.

FPD is back in action on Thursday, Sept. 22, hosting the Tattall Square Academy Lady Trojans in a key GHSA Class-A Reg. 7 game.

FPD defeated Tattnall 2-1 back on Sept. 8 on the road.

First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 5:55 p.m. at the FPD Softball Complex.
